Making a Meal of Safe Sex

August 14, 2020 4 min read

Since time began, food and sex have gone hand in hand and, never more so than during the first turbulent months of 2020. During lockdown, many couples have been exploring different kinds of foods and those known for their aphrodisiac qualities. In that spirit, we have put together the perfect menu to put a bit of va va voom into your dining room - and your bedroom.

Good food, good wine and excellent safe lovemaking is the key to romance!

Ginseng ginger spritz or champagne

Before moving onto the food of love, it is a good idea to start with a little lubrication the form of a ginseng ginger spritz cocktail or a glass or two of champagne. Ginseng and ginger are both popular aphrodisiacs and this delicious cocktail will set the mood for your evening. Alternatively, you could add some fizz to your life with some bubbles – apparently champagne imitates the aroma of the female pheromones! Sounds like a winner guys!

A ‘Sea-sational’ start

Oysters have long since been known for their libido boosting qualities due to their high zinc content which can boost semen production and regulate sexual hormones. Nothing quite like boosting your testosterone levels!

It is said that their somewhat suggestive appearance also lends a hand to the bedroom boosting properties of delicious oysters. Serve fresh oysters as an appetiser with a simple chilli and lime dressing - just be sure to wash your hands after handling the chilli to make sure that your evening is hot in the right way! Interested? Catch our recipe below for Oysters with Chilli and Lime – you won’t regret it:

Spicy Far Eastern Oysters with chilli, ginger and lime dressing

Spice up your love life with this raw oyster dish. You can have this as a main course with crusty bread to soak up the dressing or halve it for an appetiser. Whichever way, your evening will go with a bang! Famous as an aphrodisiac, oysters have a long history of being the ‘go to’ dish. They are an acquired taste though – you either love them or hate them!

Buy the oysters ready shucked from your fishmonger (make sure he gives you the shells as well for display), or if you feel you can do it yourself, make sure you have a sharp pointed knife.

Serves: 2 main portions or appetisers

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: N/A

12 oysters, shucked

For the dressing:

1 garlic clove, minced

2½cm ginger, peeled and finely chopped

2tbsp mirin, dry sherry or sweet marsala wine

1tbsp soy sauce

4 spring onions, finely sliced

1 red chilli, finely chopped

2tbsp sesame oil

1 lime to squeeze over the juice

Bunch of chives, finely chopped, to serve

  1. Take a small bowl and mix all of your dressing ingredient together – set aside.
  2. Ensure that your oyster shells are clean and devoid of any sand or grit.
  3. Pour over the dressing, squeeze over some lime and serve with crusty bread or on their own.

Of course, there is always luxurious lobster if your budget will stretch to it. Simply grilled with a light sauce to tingle your tongue and raise your senses to delicate matters. Rich in protein and a known aphrodisiac since early Greek times, it could certainly enable you to reach new heights in your sex life.

High ‘steaks’

As with other kinds of lean red meat, steak is packed full of good stuff which boosts dopamine and norepinephrine levels and, so, is the perfect main course for your night of passion. To help keep things light, serve grilled with a simple salad. If you do not eat meat, a stir fry made with asparagus, celery and rocket will help to get the juices flowing.

If you cannot wait to start getting fruity, then melons are the way forward. Specifically, watermelon which is kind of nature’s own form of Viagra due to its high citrulline content. Try adding watermelon or a handful of pomegranate seeds to a stir fry, salad or marinade to help move things in the right direction.

Sweeten the deal

Cocoa and chocolate are not only delicious but, they also contain libido boosting antioxidants and the ‘love chemical’ phenylethylamine. Try a chocolate-based cocktail such as a chocolate rye as you slip into something more comfortable. Try our recipe for a sexy chocolate fondue:

Sexy and sumptuous chocolate fondue

Just think about that soft melted chocolate, dripping off a marshmallow on the end of a fork, that you have just lovingly served your partner – conjures up all sorts of thoughts! You can use marshmallows or fruit such as strawberries, kiwis or even dunk some shortbread into it and let it dribble down your chin!

Serves: 2

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

75ml chocolate sauce (milk chocolate is better, but dark chocolate is fine as well)

40ml salted caramel

Splash of a spirit such as brandy, rum, Tia Maria or whatever you fancy

1 cinnamon stick

For dipping:

Strawberries, kiwi, shortbread fingers or marshmallows

  1. Take your fondue pot, place on its stand and light a tealight underneath.
  2. When warm, pour in your chocolate sauce and salted caramel.
  3. Add your chosen alcohol and stir regularly with the cinnamon stick.
  4. Place your chosen fruit or sweet item onto a fondue fork or a skewer, dip into the chocolate mix and lick your lips!
  5. Spoon out any remaining chocolate mix and use up later on!

After a delicious meal, there is nothing better for cleansing the palate than a touch of cool mint. Grab a pack of our mint flavoured Skins condomsas you get fresh and move things into the bedroom.
